Join us

We know that taking the first step and joining something new can be quite scary, so to help people feel more confident about coming and singing with Gay Abandon we have put together an information pack. The pack contains everything you need to know as a new member, from where we sing, to what we sing, to even what we do outside of rehearsals.

You can download our New Members information pack.

But for those of you who prefer some information up front, our FAQ’s are below:

Who can join Gay Abandon?

As an LGBT+ choir, we welcome all people who are part of the LGBT+ community. We also pride ourselves on the choir being as accessible as it can be to anyone from any walk of life, regardless of disability, income, faith, gender, age, or ethnicity. If you think you might have issues taking part in the choir, for whatever reason, please e-mail our Membership Secretary whose contact details are below, and they’ll work with you to make sure you can join.

Do I have to audition?

No, you don’t have to audition to be a part of the choir. Also, you don't have to be able to read music or even have any singing experience.

When and where do you meet?

Tuesday nights from 19:30-21:30, at Swarthmore Education Centre, 2-7 Woodhouse Square, Leeds, LS3 1AD.

How much does it cost?

Members of the choir pay a monthly membership fee, and what they pay depends on their circumstances:

£22 per month–Standard Membership Fee
£11 per month–Low Income Membership Fee
£5 per month–Student/Very Low Income Membership Fee

We understand that everyone’s circumstances are different, and we don’t want cost to be a barrier to anyone wanting to join.
Before you become a paying member of the choir, the Membership Secretary will talk with you about which package works best for you. No-one else will know what you pay, and you will receive the same benefits as every other member or choir regardless.
You can attend up to 3 sessions for free committing to membership.

Can I just turn up?

Unfortunately, no. Gay Abandon accepts new members in September
and January, and this is so the choir as a whole can be ready for any
performances that we have in place. The choir may also be full,
and we may need to add you to a waiting list.

How do I let you know I’d like to join?

You just e-mail our friendly Membership Secretary at newmembers@gay-abandon.co.uk
